Sun Bear Class cannot believe how fast time is going! We are nearly a whole term into Year 1. Firstly, we have really enjoyed learning some Welsh this term. We now complete the register in Welsh by saying “Bore Da” in the morning.

In English, we have been exploring so many fantastic books. We are developing a real love for reading; we also visit the school library and get to choose our own library book to take home!

The key texts we have looked at in English over the last few weeks are:

• Oi Aardvark
• Alexander and the Dragon
• Peace at Last
• Paddington

We have been creating our own dictionaries, ensuring they are in alphabetical order, we have been planning and writing our own stories, sequencing stories and writing character descriptions including exciting adjectives.

In Maths, we have been exploring measure including length and height, we have been looking at and becoming experts with number and place value, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also started to explore multiplication and division, including sharing. We are really working on our reasoning, please ask us lots of questions about how we know the answers and make sure you ask us to show you! We love to show off our fantastic learning and working out in Sun Bear Class.

In Design and Technology, we have been demonstrating our school value ‘Creativity’ as we have been extremely creative! We have been exploring different mechanisms and how these work. We even made our own ones. We made a sliding mechanism. Mr Heatley was super impressed and came to have a look. We then looked at pop-up mechanisms, these were super fun to make and took a lot of resilience, but we did it!  

We are now in full swing with Christmas practice. We cannot wait to invite you to come and see us!
